England

England has a long and distinguished pedigree in the history of the game since the time of the first course at Royal Blackheath in the south east suburbs of London dating back to the mid 1700’s.

The growth of the game since then to the present day, now with a choice of more than 2000 courses, many of which have hosted the great players and legends across the years.

Englands Golf Coast, as it is known, essentially the region radiating from Liverpool has many of the finest including numerous Open Championship venues: the Royals : Liverpool, Lytham and Birkdale for starters.

For value and scenic beauty Yorkshire is tough to beat, while London courses offer exceptional quality, exclusivity at a price to match.

The jewel in the crown of Birmingham golf is the home of the PGA at the Belfry , Ryder cup hosts 4 times with everything you could wish for on site.

England - An introduction to the regions

England’s Golf Coast

If St Andrews is the home of golf in Scotland, then Liverpool and Southport surely deserve this compliment in England.

Open Championship courses such as Royal Liverpool, Royal Birkdale and Royal Lytham and St Annes have over the years, notched up nearly 30 between them. However, if you are not ticking off your bucket list of courses to play, then you will be well rewarded with a visit to one of the lesser known but equally compelling courses. England’s Golf Coast offers an extensive choice of more than 20 top quality links, heathland, and parkland courses to choose from. And post golf, enjoy the nightlife of Liverpool or the more sedate seaside resort of Southport for easy access to a wide range of world class golf.

London and the Southeast

London doesn’t have to be all about the sites and the boundless attractions the Capital has to offer.

A short drive into the suburbs and you will find some spectacular golf , head south and west to Walton Heath , The London Club , The Addington, Kingswood , Wentworth , Sunningdale and England’s Oldest club at Royal Blackheath. Go north to Woburn , Stoke Park, or the Oxfordshire to name but a few.

Your choice of accommodation will largely depend on the courses you are planning to play , as you can imagine city traffic can be a challenge to be on the tee early.

Yorkshire – Harrogate - York

One of England’s most historic and prettiest counties , either Harrogate or York make a great base to discover the wealth of patrimony and sites the region has to offer.

With cricket as the first love for locals , golf comes a close second with some fine courses to choose from in England’s largest county. Both Moortown and Ganton have hosted Ryder Cups… back in the day.  Other top courses to put on the list are Alwoodley, Lindrick, Fulford and Pannal all within a short drive of either city.

The Belfry - Warwickshire

The Belfry is one of England’s finest golf and hotel resorts with top class courses on site, set in 550 acres of beautiful Warwickshire countryside and just a stone through from England second city, Birmingham.

The golf needs little introduction, having hosted the Ryder Cup 4 times on the Brabazon Course. The neighbouring Derby Course while less demanding should not be overlooked, and the PGA National Course together create an all-round golfer’s paradise. The PGA Course is the youngest of the three at the Belfry, opening for play in 1997. A wealth of challenges was created including four lakes and an abundance of strategically placed greenside bunkers. The PGA course is a rare bread with a decidedly inland links feel to it and England’s only PGA accredited golf course.
