Hotel and Golf Options

Our preferred place to stay is the 4-star Mercure Hotel at Omaha Beach for its location, proximity to top golf and the historic landing beaches that define this part of the Calvados region of Normandy. Add to this high-quality rooms at fair prices and a friendly relaxed golfing atmosphere at the hotel and it all feels right. There are two top courses on site, both challenging in their own way, the Sea and the Manor courses, par 72 and 71 respectively. The Sea course takes in views of the American landing beach of Omaha.

The Mercure Hotel has a good restaurant, bar, spa, swimming pool etc. Other options are in the local town of Port-en-Bessin which has a surprisingly good selection of decent restaurants and bars and is just over a mile away. From Omaha Beach other than the 2 excellent courses on site to play other courses you will need to drive to Caen (30 minutes) and beyond.

For a higher-end more glitzy experience head for Deauville and the Barrière Golf Hotel which overlooks the town and is a golfing institution amongst well to do French golfing types. Play golf at the on-site Tom Simson designed Deauville course and soak up the views, plus Saint Julien which is an attractive well-manicured parkland course then perhaps Amirauté or Saint Gatien all of which are within a 15 minute drive of the hotel and are hugely enjoyable.
