Located on the Old Course by the 17th fairway this is one of St Andrews most prestigious hotels. 5-star accommodation and service with iconic views up the closing hole of the Old Course to the Royal and Ancient Clubhouse. 144 rooms with 35 suites and preferential access to the Dukes Course some 4 miles away. There is a spa, several restaurants and its very own golfer’s pub, The Jigger Inn where the great and the good of golf have enjoyed the atmosphere of this special 19th hole.
The St Andrews Fairmont Hotel €€€€€
Set within 520 acres of links golf with the Kittocks and Torrance courses adjacent, the Fairmont has 212 spacious bedrooms, several dining options as well as a spa, heated indoor pool, sauna and fully equipped gymnasium. The hotel is located on the coast, a few miles out of town, however a regular complimentary shuttle bus operates year-round from the hotel to St Andrews town centre and the Old Course.
The Rusacks Hotel €€€€€
A golfer’s delight, this iconic building and splendid 4+ star hotel has undergone a major refurbishment and upgrades in recent years. Just a sand wedge from the 18th green of the Old Course. Walk out the door and you will find yourself on these hallowed links. Several dining options on site or within 5 minutes’ walk you can choose from the plethora of eateries in the town. Limited on-site free parking or free street parking. Be sure and book a room with an Old Course view.
The Peat Inn €€€€
Expertly run by Katherine and Geoffrey Smeddie you will go far to find a better restaurant in
Scotland. One of only 9 restaurants in the country with a Michelin star for its fine dining restaurant. Combine this with a small number of tastefully decorated en suite bedrooms and you have the perfect combination for your St Andrews stay. The Peat Inn is 10 minutes’ drive inland from St Andrews but certainly a comfortable place to stay with exceptional food and an extensive choice of wines and whiskies.

A centrally located 6 bedroom (sleeps maximum 12) spacious and luxurious apartment in the centre of St Andrews within walking distance of all facilities and golf. The Rufflets Hotel €€€€
This is a charming 23-bedroom traditional country house hotel with 10 acres of delightful gardens and an interior which oozes charm befitting of the finest hospitality. Located a little over 1 mile from the town centre of St Andrews, The Rufflets provides a haven of peace and quiet. The Golden Bear himself, Jack Nicklaus, has been a regular guest going back to the early 60’s when visiting St Andrews. Accolades include the Scottish Hotel of the Year, 4 AA Red Stars for accommodation and 2 AA Rosettes for the excellent local cuisine served in the Rufflets Restaurant.
The Dunvegan Hotel €€€
The Dunvegan is a St Andrews institution, mostly for the Golfers Corner bar, without doubt the most famous pub in golf. The walls and ceilings are adorned with photos of the great and good of golf who have enjoyed hospitality here. The hotel has 6 comfortable en suite bedrooms a stone’s throw (or nine iron) from the Old Course and serve tasty meals throughout the day. Opposite you can rent the Auchterlonie Suite with 3 bedrooms 2 bathrooms, large lounge and kitchenette.
The Ardgowan Hotel €€€
A firm favourite amongst the overseas golfing community and professionally run by the charming Scottish - American duo of Carmen and Rachel. You could not be better located in the heart of St Andrews with all its delights on your doorstep. Rooms are charming and vary in size and price, but all are tastefully decorated. Some small doubles are available ideal for single occupancy. Highly recommended, but book early for this popular address. Lots of dining options nearby but do try the hotel’s own Playfair Restaurant.
Cleveden House €€€
Situated in the heart of St Andrews, this beautifully maintained Victorian guest house comprises of 6 en suite bedrooms, perfectly located on Murray Place, St Andrews a short walk to shops, restaurants, bars and indeed St Andrews Old course. The property is under the expert management of St Andrew’s 19th hole AKA the Dunvegan. Your host on site is Betsy who will assure you of a warm welcome and an enjoyable stay. On road parking can be a challenge but there is free parking within a few minutes’ walk.
Annandale, Bed and Breakfast €€€
Centrally located, this family run guest house is just 250 yards from the Old Course and the town. 6 rooms all en-suite are spotlessly clean, and a warm welcome is assured by Kevin and Fiona. A superb Scottish breakfast is freshly prepared each morning and served in the classical style breakfast room. The free St Andrews golf shuttle servicing the town’s golf courses operates from outside the door. Restricted free street parking available nearby.
Nethan House, Bed and Breakfast €€
Located in St Andrews town centre this is the most central of locations to stay when visiting the Home of Golf. Family owned and run by Bryan and Linzi who have been welcoming guests to St Andrews for many years. The Bed and Breakfast has a selection of en suite rooms each with en suite shower room and WC and equipped with every modern amenity.
Pinewood Country House €€
This is an elegant period house located near St Michaels and a 10-minute drive from the centre of St Andrews. There are 6 spacious en-suite bedrooms, a guests sitting room, breakfast room and use of a small kitchen area. Equally convenient if you plan to play golf around Carnoustie with a 10-minute drive across the Tay Bridge to Dundee. Lots of parking and good local pub within a 5-minute walk for dinner and pint of ale.
Drumoig Golf Hotel €
The hotel is located on The Drumoig Championship Course, just 15 minutes’ drive from St Andrews. The property is a simple, clean hotel made up of the main building overlooking the course with reception area, bar and restaurant and 5 main rooms, plus a further 6 independent buildings each with 4 en suite rooms. A fully equipped driving range is to be found 500 yards from the hotel. The rooms are simple but adequate and offer excellent value for money for the budget conscious traveller.
St Andrews University €
Between late June and the end of August, St Andrews University students leave town and vacate their halls of residence. These double occupancy rooms with en suite shower and WC are the best value accommodation in St Andrews with easy access on foot to the town centre and golf. A delicious buffet breakfast is served and there is a bar and restaurant open each evening. Plenty of free parking is provided outside the door.
